The writing is excellent with many pointed phrases and descriptions that will never leave my brain. And it is rip-roaringly funny.

My only bone to pick with you, Mr Anderson, is your statement at the end that the financial sector of The City, does generate loads of taxes for good, public use. Ah, if only. Perhaps the day to day spreadsheets were more prevalent than the garish macho bravardery fuelled by booze and cocaine? Very enjoyable book. Immediately engaging and funny throughout.

Cityboy - Secrets of Investment Bankers exposed (Geraint Anderson)

The narrators deadpan voice makes it! Cannot recommend enough! Read this after absolutely loving The Buy Side. Doesn't come close at all. Disappointing as had heard good things and hoped for a London equivalent. My search continues Amazon story, I would recommended to everyone who want to listen and laugh at the city boys. Taken with a pinch of salt very entertaining read for those who work in the City. By: Geraint Anderson. Narrated by: Tom Hollander.

Geraint Anderson - Wikipedia

Sara Pascoe A laugh-out-loud funny moral tale for our time Anderson bravely bares all, including his at times distorted soul as he is seduced into joining the highest rollers on earth -- stockbrokers. Jonathan Bailey Much shorter than expected. James Hardy Hilariously insightful Very enjoyable book. Anonymous User Disappointing - expected so much more Read this after absolutely loving The Buy Side. Great audio to listen Amazon story, I would recommended to everyone who want to listen and laugh at the city boys. Entertaining but hypocrytical excellent, entertaining actually found myself more motivated in my current insurance based sales role than before reading, thus contrary to the author spreading apparent good in the world.

Show More. Also; I laughed so loudly that my neighbours want to buy it too. Well I? Where did he live? Who did he deal with outside work and the city? How did his family deal with his success and the changes in him? How did he himself? More about his rivalry with Hugo and his golfing skills after the drubbing? Detail about the changes from snot nosed kid to successful Stock broking Powerhouse, The evolving relationship with his brother In all I loved it and listened to the whole thing in one sitting whilst rewinding periodically to catch the bits I laughed through.

Andersons voice is simply the cherry on the cake, hilarious, witty and informative. This is a fun little book about the greed, hedonism, corruption and general childishness of some of the members of our esteemed financial institutions. I suspect revelations about such things are not as shocking as they might once have been to a generation reared on "The Wolf of Wall Street", but Anderson still has a way with words and a way of making his various anecdotes entertaining.

Confessions of a City boy, Geraint Anderson | Cityboy

What the book lacks however, is any real point. I'm not entirely sure what I or anyone else is supposed to do differently in response to these "revelations". Except perhaps lobby for a crackdown on insider trading, and treat the talking heads on TV with appropriate skepticism. It will certainly however please anyone who has ever felt that city-types are over-paid for what they do, since Anderson is unashamedly baffled as to why he was paid as much as he was. The narrator is good, really captures the spirit of the book in a natural way. Anderson bravely bares all, including his at times distorted soul as he is seduced into joining the highest rollers on earth -- stockbrokers.

Originally a leftist hippie without much rudder, he falls into working in The City of London, the world's largest in terms of money financial centre in the world. There he meets with unexpected success and finds that blagging and boozing is a surprisingly lucrative pursuit.
